Luckily, the fact that he's a furry alien is a bit harder to notice, since he'll spend much of the game decked out in upgradeable commando suits. Put another way, the new Ratchet could actually have some chance of picking up a lady, assuming she wasn't freaked out by the fact that he's a furry alien. It seems a lot of players felt this way, so Insomniac has remade its hero into a kinder, gentler character. ![]() If you played the original game, then you may have felt that its protagonist was a bit of a jerk. So, first things first: Yes, Ratchet's personality has changed. It seems the company's top-secret invention has been stolen by a masked marauder, and it's up to the platformin' duo to retrieve it and solve a bunch of other plot-related mysteries. Of course, the laws of video-game storylines intercede, and they find themselves kidnapped into the Bogon Galaxy by the CEO of Megacorp, Galaxy's largest (and only) corporation. After the events of the first game, Ratchet and his metallic friend think they'll take it easy. Ratchet & Clank's new subtitle comes from the fact that Ratchet really will become a commando. What is surprising is that Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando will be in stores in time for the holiday season. Considering this success (and Insomniac's history of Spyro sequels), it's no surprise that the studio is hard at work on a sequel. More surprisingly, the game enjoyed unprecedented success in Japan, where it actually outsold its U.S. A " character action game" (as its developers would call it), Ratchet & Clank made quite the splash this past Christmas season, and proved that there was life beyond Spyro for developer Insomniac.
